This was the second piece I created at the Pewaukee plein air competition. While I was painting Low River, I could see that some amazing things were happening in the sky over the lake behind me, and each time I stepped back to get a better view of my work I vowed that I would not miss my chance to get over there  before the day was gone. At 7:00 I suddenly realized there was only an hour left in my time limit, so I folded the legs of my tripod, grabbed my whole setup, and raced across two parking lots and a street with my pochade box waving in the air over my head, brushes attached and swaying. I'm sure it was quite the spectacle.

My new location was in a strip of lakefront garden, and groups were relaxing on benches and heading to and from the Taste of Pewaukee nearby, so it was a fun setting to paint in, with children stopping by to ask questions, and groups pausing to chat behind me while I worked. An hour later, I signed it and turned it in, my first one hour painting from start to finish. What a rush!
