This was my first painting at the Waterfront Art Fair plein air competition in Pewaukee, and it stymied me with nerves for quite some time, because it was my first competition, and I had only been doing plein air for a few days, and I was also late getting started. Not a good state of mind to paint in, but I pushed through and stuck with it, until I saw that there was only one hour left to the competition, and I wouldn't get another shot at a sunset in Pewaukee if I didn't run over there to get it, so I folded the legs of my tripod, and raced across two parking lots and a street with my pochade box waving in the air over my head, brushes attached and swaying. I'm sure it was quite the spectacle. I came back the next afternoon to finish the grasses and flowers in the foreground, and to sign it.
